COLLABORATIVE CERAMIC WORK

PAINTINGS BY MARK SHEPPARD

Artists Statement: Our collaboration in ceramics evloved from our separate interests in painting and ceramics. Patty creates wheel thrown ceramic pieces in a porcelaneous stoneware and uses sgraffitto techniques to incise each piece. Her interest in the function of each vessel and in patterns and design influence the shape and the border. Mark creates hand painted images on the clay using a fine brush and underglazes. His drawings and paintings are inspired by artists such as Bosch and Bruegel & images which he explores in his sketchbook. Fables and fairy tales are a recurring theme in his paintings and drawings.

Mark Sheppard- Mark has taught at the St. Louis Art Museum and the St. Louis Artists Guild. He currently teaches at St. Charles Community College and St. Louis Community College at Meramec. Mark has also been creating "plein aire" paintings at several local competitions in which many of his pieces have sold and have won awards.
