Marlene
Lewis Watch Marlene paint on-site at Grafica Fine Arts (Saturday only!) About the artist: My painting style is based on what I love and find endlessly fascinating - light, color and the unconscious feelings they arouse in me. The inspiration for my art comes from so many places, beginning with my childhood memories of Miami, Florida. It was a place of sensuality, tropical colors, and people of different nationalities and cultures - a place of vibrant, beautifully adorned Latino women and those around them. I try to recreate in my paintings the feelings that these experiences aroused in me - the joy of being alive, of being able to experience the intensity of color and light all around me, and the experience and joy of being a woman. Travels to museums in Italy and France greatly influenced my painting style. I was completely drawn to the expressiveness of the Post-Impressionists, the colors and subjects of Matisse and Van Gogh, the sensuality of Gauguin and Lautrec. These painters spoke to me in ways that went beyond words and explanations. It's only paint on canvas; yet, miraculously, it can provoke feelings of being alive. This is what I try to achieve. Recent juried shows
in which I've shown my work include: Altius Gallery, Art & Air in
Webster Groves, Belas Artes, Venus Envy, Women's Caucus Art St. Louis
Chapter, and the St. Louis Artist Guild. My paintings are currently
exhibited at RosettaStone Fine Art Gallery in West Palm Beach, Florida,
Grafica Contemporary Fine Art and Framing in Webster Groves, Cyranos,
and Belas Artes.
